Pembroke Holiday

At the end of April 2014 I stayed in a B+B In Pembroke. I took the trip down there for one purpose really but as I had a few days there I took the opportunity to explore the area a bit closer. My first visit was suppose to be to a church that was carved into the cliffs near Bosherton. However, unknown to me the only entry to that church was through an exercise area of the army and was closed while I was there. I think I have to make sure I do my research a bit better when I go next time.

Despite missing out visiting St Govan’s Church I did manage to get some nice shots in some of the other wonderful locations around Pembroke. One of the ones I was particularly impressed with was Bosherston Lakes. I visited that location twice, walking around the lakes from different directions. Both times I absolutely loved the eight arched bridge which spans the lake.

The destination of the first walk from Stackpole gardens, passing the eight arch bridge and crossing the grassy bridge was Broadhaven south and Church rock.

During that walk some wildlife shots presented themselves. Dragonflies and cormorants were a common sight every time I visited the place. Seen, but not photographed were also otters.

The second day I visited  Angle and walked around the beach there a bit but I am afraid that weather was not to good first thing in the morning. Very overcast and hazy and photography was difficult. It was however a lovely walk.

In the afternoon I visited Carew Castle and although the visit was very nice I decided to go back the next day first thing in the morning. I could see the potential and the early morning visit did not disappoint. The light was lovely and some detail in the sky created some interesting shots.

I also visited Pembroke castle but as that was situated in the middle of town I was reluctant to visit it late at night or early morning on my own. I find it difficult to get sunrise or sunset shots when I am out on my own and sometimes have to be content with late afternoon shots like the one of Pembroke castle.

Another location well worth visiting when in Pembroke was Barafundle bay and Lort’s Cove, especially as its open to dogs. Despite it being a popular beach to visit and very busy it was lovely to go there in the late afternoon when the crowd had dispersed a bit. Some dramatic clouds gave the shots some interests despite the lack of a colourful sunset.

Tenby is one of the locations I would love to re-visit in the near future. Not only have I seen some potential shots that I did not manage to get at this visit but I also would love to take the boat from Tenby over to Caldey Island. That however will have to be done on another holiday as I not only ran out of time, but I also had my dog with me. Dogs are allowed on the island and the boats will take them, but I was not sure how my baby would have like the idea of going on a boat. He never done it and I did not want to spoil my visit by a hysteric dog.

I have visited other locations around Pembroke while I was there but never got images that were worth while posting or mentioning. As mentioned before I plan to go back to various locations but this time without the dog. I hope you enjoyed this little collection of holiday shots.
